| HOW DOES
MY CHILD RETURN A LIBRARY BOOK?
Elementary grades have a scheduled
"library" day in which they may return
their library books to their classroom
teacher or they may return the book
directly to the library. Elementary
students may also return their books to
the library on days other than their
"library day." All other grades and
patrons may return items directly to the
library. Please DO NOT leave books
outside the library doors, set them on
the library desk, on one of the tables,
or at the front office. All items
brought to the library should be placed
on the empty bookcase just inside the
door to the left.
WILL I BE FINED IF I TURN MY
BOOK IN LATE?
All library item(s) have a one-week
grace period. If a student forgets a
book on "library day," he may return it
by the following week with no assessed
fine. After the grace period, a fine of
ten cents per day will be assessed to a
maximum fine of $5.00.
WILL I BE NOTIFIED OF AN
OVERDUE BOOK OR AN ASSESSED FINE?
An overdue fine/notice will be sent
out each week to students that have
exceeded the due date. Parents may want
to check with older students
occasionally to see if they have
received such a notice. Many a library
book has been buried deep in a locker
for several weeks at a time.
WHAT HAPPENS TO OVERDUE BOOKS AT THE END
OF THE SCHOOL YEAR? All books
must be returned and all fines paid in
order for a student to receive his
grades. If books are not returned and
fines paid by the end of July, the price
of the book and/or the cost of the fine
will be charged to their school account.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DAMAGE OR LOSE A
BOOK? A patron must pay for
the replacement of any book or other
damaged/lost item. If the item is found
after payment for it has been received,
the missing item may be returned to the
library for a full refund. If an item is
checked out to a student or other
patron, it becomes that person's
responsibility to take care of the item
and return it within the prescribed time
period and at the proper place.
WHEN IS THE LIBRARY OPEN? The
library will be open from 7:45 a.m. to
3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Parents may
want to visit the library after they
have dropped their students off for
school or come early before the students
are dismissed. Parents may also visit
with their children any time. Others are
welcome to visit within the school
hours. The librarian may be involved
with a class, but the visitors are
welcome to browse at their leisure.
WHY DO SOME BOOKS HAVE PAGES
MARKED WITH AN ORANGE DOT? We
are unable to read every book in the
library. At times, otherwise valuable
books contain information in which
students must read with extra
discernment. Since we desire to
encourage students to read with a
biblical worldview, we have decided to
mark pages requiring discernment with an
orange dot to warn of such challenges.
Parents and teachers may wish to use
these pages as opportunities to spark
discussions. If a page is found
containing a challenge to our Christian
worldview that has not been marked,
please let the librarian know.
DURING THE DAY, WHEN MAY MY STUDENT
VISIT THE LIBRARY? The
librarian reads to the elementary grades
throughout the week on their specified
"library day." There are also days when
a junior high or senior high class is
visiting to do research on a project. If
students come to the library and see a
class in session, they should come back
at a later time. If a class is not in
session, students may freely enter the
library at any time of the day.
HOW ARE STUDENTS EXPECTED TO ACT IN THE
LIBRARY? The library is a
place for checking items in and out,
hearing stories, learning library
skills, reading books and/or magazines,
doing homework, conducting research, and
participating in serious study. Students
are to take proper care of all library
materials, furniture, and equipment.
Improper behavior/conduct in the library
will result in the loss of library
privileges. CAN STUDENTS CHECK
OUT VIDEOS OR MAGAZINES?
Students cannot check out videos or
magazines. However, teachers and parents
are welcome to check out videos
for use in the classroom or at home.
Magazines are unable to be checked out
for now. All patrons are welcome to look
at the magazines at their leisure in the
library.
WHAT MAGAZINES DOES THE LIBRARY
CURRENTLY SUBSCRIBE TO?

here
to see a list of Library magazines.
If someone would be interested in
donating a subscription for another
magazine or extending the life of a
current subscription, please talk to the
librarian.
CAN I USE THE COMPUTERS FOR
RESEARCH?
Computers may be used for research and
school projects. All patrons MUST sign
up for computer use at the library desk.
The library computers are installed with
a filter to keep unwanted material from
"popping" up. Any improper use of a
computer will result in a loss of
computer privileges. Parents and
teachers are welcome to use the
computers as well.
CAN I USE THE COLOR OR
BLACK-AND-WHITE PRINTERS IN THE LIBRARY?
Printers may be used to copy work for
school papers and projects. Black and
white copies are fifteen cents per copy and
color copies are seventy-five cents per
copy. Please inform your children that
copies must be paid for at the time they
are printed.
CAN I VOLUNTEER TO WORK AT THE
LIBRARY?
Volunteers are a BLESSING!!!!!! Students
who have a study hall and have their
work caught up are very welcome to work
in the library. We have books that need
to be re-shelved every day as well as
books and other items to be processed
and put out for circulation. It is an
overwhelming task and both students and
adults who might be able to share an
hour or two in the library during the
week would be greatly appreciated.
Volunteers are especially needed during
Book Fair. Please contact the librarian
for further information.
IF I HAVE ITEMS TO DONATE TO THE
LIBRARY, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Books and media donations are a great
way to expand our library. Because of
limited space, we must restrict
donations to books that are in good
condition and reference materials that
are not outdated. Please contact the
librarian if you wish to donate
materials. Donations are tax deductible.
If you wish to have a receipt of your
donation, please see the librarian or
Mrs. Kipfer in Accounting and they will
complete a donation form. A receipt
letter will then be mailed to you. If
new items purchased for the library are
accompanied by a sales receipt, we can
state the value of the donation on your
receipt letter. Validation of used items
or items not accompanied by a receipt
will be the responsibility of the donor.
The following policy statement states
our position on the types of materials
that will be accepted/displayed:
Lakewood Park Christian School does not
necessarily endorse all the contents of
any book in our library from the
standpoint of morals, philosophy,
theology, or scientific hypothesis. We
choose materials that meet certain
academic standards and provide
information in various fields of
research and content. The moral position
of LPCS is in strict adherence to the
principles taught in Scripture, while
our goal is to teach students critical
thinking and spiritual discernment.
WHAT HAPPENS TO ITEMS THAT ARE
DONATED TO THE LIBRARY?
Items may be shelved in the library for
general use, given to teachers for their
classroom library, or placed in our
"Teacher Resource" section for teacher
use. Occasionally, we may be unable to
use a particular item. If you would like
your unused items returned to you,
please attach a note to the box you are
donating with your name, address, and
desire and we will honor that.
CAN I MAKE A MONETARY DONATION TO
THE LIBRARY?
The library depends on proceeds from the
Book Fair and, on occasion, grants in
order to operate. There are many times
during the year that teachers may have a
need for a book or media product to
enhance their classroom teaching.
Monetary donations of any size to the
library allow the librarian to select
those needed books/media items and are
gratefully accepted.
ARE THERE RESOURCES FOR
COLLEGE-BOUND STUDENTS?
The library now carries the catalogs,
viewbooks, and DVD's (when possible) for
many Christian colleges. These items may
be checked out to be reviewed as
students start their college search. ACT
and SAT books are available for practice
tests. Websites will allow a student to
practice for these tests as well.
Library computers would be available for
use in this endeavor.
